Hard To Get

My muse laughs
for she knows how her magic works.
She taunts me daily
tying words to kite tails
and flying them where I can see them
but cannot reach.

Now and then she lets a few
trail across my mind
just long enough to touch my soul
and tempt my pen
then slips back into the night
playing hard to get

She takes pride
in her deftness of flight,
darting this way and that,
teasing my thoughts
when she knows my eyes are weary
and my dreams beckon.

She leaves tiny morsels
on my pillow,
snippets of inspiration
she refuses to fully share
unless the stars align in harmony
to her whims

But when her heart bleeds
upon the parchment of my soul
she smiles
and drifts into the shadows,
lest I learn the secret
she tries so hard to hide

…that even though she plays
hard to get
in truth, she likes it
when I write

I'm a mother of 3 teens , no, make that 2 teens and a young adult! ... and 2 dogs. I work full time plus overtime (plus taxiing kids around!) and still have the odd second left over for stuff I enjoy. I am a creative soul and spend most of that time writing, but have also enjoyed oil painting, pencil sketching, photography, ... just about anything creative.
